Tofu Beef Jerky Style

There are times when I want something to munch on something that is not a Yogurt wanna-be (soy or almond yogurt) or cheese that is not cheese (rice or almond cheese) but want something that has substance.   Tired of potato chips and vegan ice cream and the cookies are boring.  I want something that I can sink my teeth into and derive pleasure from.   Like jerky.  Being a vegan, beef jerky is not an option plus it would gross me out.  Why not make tofu in the same style?

Imitation Beef Jerky

1 package Wildwood organic SprouTofu (or any type of firm tofu) Super Firm

2 tbsps. Olive oil

1 tsp. cinnamon powder

1 tsp. turmeric

Slice the tofu into very thin slices.

Mix the remaining ingredients together.  If the mixture is too thick add more olive oil.

Paint (Not kosher to say butter) a cookie sheet with the olive oil mixture.

Lay the sliced tofu on the cookie sheet.

Paint the tofu with the remaining mixture.

Bake at 350F for 30 minutes.

Let cool and store in an air tight container in the fridge.

I have used this jerky in sandwiches made with vegan butter or vegan mayo.  I add vegan cheese, lettuce and tomato and it’s delicious.  I have also cut up this jerky and added it to salads or stir fried it with tons of veggies.  This jerky is quite versatile and seriously stops the hunger pangs.

Options to try: add sesame seeds, basil leaves or finely chopped nuts.  Whatever you choose to add will only intensify the flavor and give you options to eat and variety in life.
